Q. How can I know that I am saved?

A. This is actually an easy question. I know, I know, it has been hashed to bits by some and the error of "doubt" has been fostered by others. I too crosed through periods of self loathing and doubt after hearing or reading some very convincing arguments about the "signs" of the truly converted. There has even been some teaching that the "perfect saved" will be raptured away not having to suffer the "tribulation days". And there are those that would have you believe you must have some "sign" as proof of having the Holy Spirit. Signs like speaking in "tongues" or being possessed and even made drunk by the Holy Spirit. This, my friends, borders on blaspheme.
Matthew 12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas:
Matthew 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Those words are quotes from the Messiah Himself and they should not be taken lightly. He is calling it as it is. But the orginal question is about "knowing" you are saved. Read the following then go the pages of your own Bibleand "believe" what you read.
Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord YaHshua, and shalt believe in thine heart that God (the Father) hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
Do not be afraid to admit that YaHshua is your Messiah, your Lord, and that our Father in Heaven "raised" Him from death. Your Job is to "believe". By this you confess that our Father in heaven is true and that His Son YaHshua is true and truthful.
1 John 5:1 Everyone who believes that YaHshu is the Christ (Messiah) is born of God (the Father) ...
1 John 5:13 I write these thing to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Ephesians 1:13 And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of you salvation. Having believed, you were marked in Him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who (that) is a deposit guaranteeing our (your) inheritance.
These messages were addressed to a particular audience and do apply to us, or to any htat would claim YaHshua or the words of the gospel and its message (the Holy Bible) as their own. While it is recongized that the name "Jesus" is in error we must acknowledge the Holy writings of the Holy Bible contain the message of salvation, the "gospel message", but in the final judgement all will have to accept YaHshua as Messiah and no other.
There are certaily a lot more verses covering your "salvation" statis but those I have given will be enough to get you started on a study merely by the use of cross references in you own Bible and the best way to really learn and confirm such thing in your own heart is by the Word it self. One final thing -- notice in Ephesians 1:13, above, that the "seal" you are marked with is the Holy Spirit. Don't let anyone fool you into thinking the Holy Spirit is anything other than the Spirit of our Father and of His Son, it is not a seperate personality, and notice too that it is refered to as a "deposite". So we have but a small amount of the Holy Spirit as a "guarantee" of our salvation. If our Heavenly Father were to "fill" us with His Holy Spirit we would vaporize in the twinkling of an eye.
