AI in the Bible?
Q: Hi, Dan,
I have been reading about AI in the news. Is there any word in the Bible about it? Barbara

A:
AI -- I too, have been hearing a bit about this.  Actually, this is not surprising.    I am a bit of a SiFi fan.  There has been several SiFi movies  about this sort of thing.  But now, things going on behind the  scenes, for decades, are coming to light because they are  ready to release some of the programs using AI more than  usual.

But, you asked about the Bible and any mention about AI?  Well, no, and maybe.  In Rev 13 we are told that the beast will make an "image" that speaks.  Realizing that AI was not a word or term back then, but we could draw likeness.  Revelation 13:15 -- and they were able to make the Image speak, and people were to worship this thing.  Then we have the Mark of the Beast.  Prophets, genuine and false, have made a lot out of this mark.  Everything from scan bars to chip implants, all things never heard of back when those words were written.  Then there is the reveal about a power that Satan has.  The power over death was taken away from him, but he retains Power over the air -- Every time I think about that verse, I recall how often we refer to the "airways", and the possible connection between what is broadcast out over the airways, for our consumption.  AI will be a process that will need to be sent out and received, as over the airways.  Who could have possibly guessed such a thing when those words were put to paper, as a revelation for us?

Eph 2:1  As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins,
Eph 2:2  in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.  NIV

There might be some other things that could be stretched into the AI discussion, but mostly all of this is speculation and fiction.  AI could be a great benefit, like super encyclopedia of information, and then coupled with holograms that actually move and talk, well, the benefit would be a doctor's appointment without ever seeing a real doctor, maybe?  There is a 3d hologram of WWII survivors, that are deceased, but you can sit down in a room and in another room with a two way window you can ask this image of a once real live person, personal questions about their life, and through AI, incorporated with the actual events of that person life, the response comes back as if you are actually having a live conversation with this person.

However, there is nothing  that mentions AI directly, at least in the language we speak, back then or now, that I know of.  We can see things, once thought to be fanciful stories, becoming fact, and so it is with a lot of Bible Prophecy.  Thing that seemed impossible, when first written, not seem every real, and very possible.

I remember when we were in Rome we joined a great crowd of people in the Vatican circle, and the Pope went by in His little white car.  we had a front row seat, I could have reached out and touched him, but what caught my attention was the two huge TV screens they had to the Left and to the Right with the Pope's image for all to see, and the Image was speaking to all of us.  AI -- as in Artificial Intelligence?  Maybe that is what Revelation 13 is talking about?

Peace, Dan  -- always so good to hear from you.  Love the question.  What are your thought on this?

Added later to the previous email:

Rev 13:14  Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.
Rev 13:15  He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.

Not a very pleasant thought, of course.  Certainly, though, as mentioned in the past, many other times -- what appears as a curse in Biblical Prophecy, appears as blessings, or is presented by Satan's agents as blessings for the humanity, for the flesh, and so it will be in this case.  The deceptions, whatever the "signs" will be, will fool most people, and then this "image" will come to life and speak.  What it speaks must be pretty convincing and "intelligent", or it would only be a joke.  In this case, it will be so convincing that if some will not pay it homage, as in worship, and it appears to be something with intelligence above the norm, something people would worship, even to supporting the death of others for not going along with the program.  This all remains to be seen, but, if the Bible has anything to say about AI, this would be it.
